Challenge
Water availability limits productivity and crop quality
Farm Goals
- Increase silage yield
- Improve forage quality
Trial Setup
- A TerraFlow®-treated triticale field (102 acres) and an untreated triticale field (126 acres) were compared for agronomic performance. Fields had similar topography and soil types, and all other treatments were consistent between the control and treatment fields.
- Fields were harvested for silage and weighed to determine yield. Forage quality samples were collected from both the treated and control groups and analyzed by a third-party laboratory.
- Statistical analyses were conducted on all applicable data, including a paired T-test and Least Significant Difference analysis.
Trial Results
The following results were observed in the TerraFlow-treated field, relative to the control:
- Up to 66% yield increase
- 1.3 more pounds of crude protein supplied/day (4% increase)
- 3.5% lower ADF; 2.7% higher TDF
- Up to 6.7% net energy increase
- Increased forage mineral content
- Potential to reduce forage requirement by 1.13 lbs/cow/day
Control (Field 5) | Control (Field 7) | UpTerra (Field 6) | % Increase | |
Tons Per Acre | ||||
Triticale | 8.78 | 7.08 | 11.78 | ⬆34.16%, ⬆66.41% |

Key Trial Takeaways
- The results indicate that TerraFlow has a positive impact on the yield and quality of triticale silage.
- Plants with TerraFlow-treated water likely had better access to soil nutrients due to improved nutrient cycling, enhanced microbial activity, healthier roots and increased moisture availability.
- Better plant health throughout the season likely contributed to improved forage quality metrics.
- Triticale growers who use TerraFlow can increase feed efficiency, thereby reducing overall forage costs.
- Trial results indicate that TerraFlow can be particularly beneficial for forage crop growers who want to maintain high yields without sacrificing forage quality.
